When you are trying to maintain a better lifestyle or planning to improve your credit score, opening multiple credit accounts like loans and credit cards can help you achieve these goals. While the availability of extra funds can work wonders for covering essential expenses, having a good credit mix can strengthen your credit report.

But managing multiple credit accounts is no walk in the park. You not only have to be careful about meeting payment deadlines, but you also need to be thoughtful about using your approved credit. However, choice tips can help you master this otherwise challenging process.

To assist you on this journey to financial wellness, here are a few strategies to juggle multiple credit accounts.

Maintain a Good Credit Mix

If you want to maintain multiple credit accounts, you need to have a good mix of credit products by your side. This is not an exact science. But typically, having at least one revolving credit account like a credit card and an installment credit account like an auto loan can result in a good credit mix. It shows that you can meet the requirements of different types of credit.

Keep an Eye on Your Credit Score

While you manage your credit accounts, it’s important to keep tracking your credit score. You can make a soft inquiry that doesn’t affect your credit score by making a free 3 credit report request to one of the major credit bureaus. This gives you an exact idea of how your efforts for improving your credit score are coming along. From there, you can also dispute any misreported details to improve your score.

Pay Your Bills on Time

Making your credit card, line of credit, and loan payments on time is one of the simplest and most reliable ways to improve your credit score. You don’t have to jump through hoops to achieve this feat: You can simply use a solution like a money management app to remember how much you need to pay for your bills. With that, you can also note down the due date for these payments.

Keep Your Credit Utilization at a Minimum

While a good credit mix calls for at least one revolving credit account, you should be careful not to use the entire amount that’s approved through your credit card or line of credit. At minimum, do not exceed the 30% threshold for your total approved amount. This keeps your credit usage at an acceptable range and prevents your credit score from getting negatively affected due to this factor.

Increase Your Credit Limits

Increasing your credit limits is a simple way to lower your credit utilization. When you have a high credit limit, it raises the threshold of the amount that you can use without impacting your credit score. With that being said, you should make sure not to fall prey to spending more money with higher credit limits. Similar to business expense management software, you can find various budgeting apps to live within your means.

Clear Your Balances As Much as Possible

When you keep your credit utilization at a minimum, you can easily pay off your revolving account balances in full every month. This not only helps your credit score, but also saves you from avoidable interest. This is especially helpful when you have multiple credit cards or lines of credit to your name. This may require you to carefully calculate your expenses every month, but it is well worth the effort.

Make Payments Before Your Statements Are Generated

While your installment credit payments typically stay at the same amount, your revolving credit payments vary from month to month. But more often than not, both installment credit and revolving credit have a set due date for payments each month. Keeping this in mind, try to pay off your revolving account balances before the day your statements are generated. This can keep your reported utilization rate at a minimum. You can use a reminder app to stay on top of these dates.

With these strategies, you can master the art of managing different credit accounts. This ensures that you can meet the difficult requirements of handling various types of credit, while still protecting your credit score from any harm.
