Are you thinking about using benzoyl peroxide body wash? If so, you’ll be joining millions of people worldwide who use the product on a regular basis to control acne on their shoulders, neck and torso. As you’ll find out when applying them, avoiding dryness can be tricky due to how the product works.

The fact that benzoyl peroxide (BP) washes penetrate the skin to keep your pores clear is another of the things that you need to know before using this kind of acne solution. So, with this in mind, that’s what we help you with here as we cover seven useful aspects to be aware of.

Understanding Benzoyl Peroxide Body Wash

Benzoyl peroxide is an antimicrobial agent that prevents acne and reduces inflammation of the skin. Benzoyl peroxide body wash products also help in shedding dead skin cells and promoting the regeneration of new skin. Here are some other facts to know on the subject.

  • #1 – Benzoyl Peroxide Targets Acne-Causing Bacteria – One of the main reasons benzoyl peroxide is so effective at treating body acne is its ability to kill Propionibacterium acnes, the bacteria that causes breakouts. BP is able to reduce redness and control excess oil, all of which contribute to clogged pores and acne formation.
  • #2 – It Comes in Different Strengths – BP body washes come in a selection of concentrations (typically 4% and 10%). The strength you choose depends on your skin type and how bad your acne is. If you’re not sure which strength is right for you, it’s best to start with a lower concentration and gradually work your way up if needed.
  • #3 – It Can Cause Dryness and Irritation – BPO can be harsh on the skin, resulting in dryness, redness, and even peeling, especially if overused or if you’re using a higher concentration that your skin can’t cope with. However, you should expect a little sensitivity, as it’s a sign the product is working.
  • #4 – Moisturizing Really Helps! – While we’re on the subject of skin dryness caused by the use of BP washes, you should know that a good non-comedogenic, fragrance-free moisturizer is really going to help. Used after every BP treatment, ingredients like glycerin, ceramides, and hyaluronic acid will help hydrate your skin while avoiding clogging.
  • #5 – It Can Stain Your Clothes – Something else to know is that BP washes can bleach your clothes, towels and other fabrics. That’s why you should always be careful where it goes and always rinse your face fully.
  • #6 – Consistency Is Key – Being patient and methodical is what’s required when fighting acne with BP products. While you may see some improvement in acne after a week or two, it can take several weeks of regular use to see significant results.
  • #7 – It Can Make Skin Sun-Sensitive – Using BP products can also make your skin more sensitive to the sun, meaning you’re more likely to get sunburn. In order to combat that, just using a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily will keep you protected.

Benzoyl Peroxide Body Wash – An Excellent Choice For Body Acne

All things considered, BP body washes are an excellent option for those dealing with body acne, but the right strength of the product needs to be used correctly to avoid side effects like dryness or irritation.

This all needs to be backed up with the use of a good non-comedogenic moisturizer and you must be consistent with your approach if you want the best possible results.

Also, remember that you may be a little more sun-sensitive while using the product and it’s a good idea to keep the product away from any clothes you want to avoid staining. Take all of this into consideration and you’re fully prepared for a future with clearer skin!
