Pest infestations are often linked with health concerns and discomfort. They are known carriers of some of the worst diseases in history, and are thus supremely hated. Did you know, there’s one more serious reason for you to hate them!

The expert pest control Irvine is known for its expertise in negating any structural damage caused by pests. A pest’s need for expansion often comes at the cost of your home. From living in cracks to making new holes, here’s how pests affect the structure of your home –

Rodents and Gnawing

Rodents, such as rats and mice, are notorious for their gnawing habits. Their constantly growing incisors compel them to chew on various materials, including wood, electrical wiring, insulation, and even plumbing. This gnawing can weaken structural beams, create fire hazards from exposed wiring, and cause leaks in plumbing systems. Moreover, the burrowing and nesting behavior of rodents can further destabilize structures.

Ants and Tunneling

Ants, particularly carpenter ants, pose a significant threat to wooden structures. Unlike termites, carpenter ants do not consume wood but tunnel through it to create their nests. Over time, this tunneling can weaken wooden beams, floors, and other structural elements, compromising the building’s stability. Carpenter ants often target damp or decayed wood, making it essential to address moisture issues in conjunction with pest control.

Termites and Wood Consumption

Termites are perhaps the most destructive pests when it comes to structural damage. These silent destroyers feed on cellulose, which is found in wood and other building materials. Termites can cause extensive damage before their presence is even detected, hollowing out wooden beams and supports. This can lead to severe structural instability and even collapse if left unchecked.

Wasps and Nests

Wasps can also cause structural damage, particularly when they build their nests in attics, wall voids, or under eaves. Large wasp nests can put stress on building materials, and their acidic saliva can weaken wood over time. Additionally, wasp stings pose an elevated safety risk to residents, especially those with allergies, making them a notorious creature.

Dealing with pests while being sensitive to structural damage is the role of a professional. A pest control expert not only gets rid of an infestation, but also identifies what potential structural integrity is compromised. It’s far too common for these weaknesses to be exploited by the same or other pest species – making it essential to address them!
