You may have noticed that the majority of cereal boxes are designed in a way to stand out and get the attention of shoppers. This makes it tough for customers to choose which cereal to get. Cereal brands need to understand the impact that packaging has on customer perception and behavior.

When designed right, it has the ability to make people choose a certain cereal brand whilst ignoring another one. Vibrant colors along with captivating characters are able to get the attention of many people, convincing them to pick up the box and consider the product.

The colors and graphics that you choose to include on the packaging design are very important. The following discusses the psychology of color plus graphics in the box design for cereal:

Psychology of color

Colors impact the way that one feels about something. Color psychology in the packaging design is able to influence customer perception along with behavior. Certain colors get used to evoke particular feelings and even associations.

A brand needs to choose those colors which will give a positive feeling to its consumer base. It is important to know what different colors signify and choose the ones most suited to the message that a company wants to convey.

Cereal box colors get strategically selected to give a certain emotion to customers. For instance warm colors such as red along with yellow are usually employed for giving one a feeling of excitement plus appetite stimulation. Cool colors such as blue or green can give the impression of calmness plus healthiness.

Psychology of graphics

The graphics that you include on the packaging also have a major role to play in attracting the target audience and letting people know what type of product you are selling. It is important to include relevant graphics that will not confuse people.

For instance images of the product can be included or of fresh fruits or some cartoon character. Images such as these are able to represent the cereal and aid customers in making an informed decision about whether to buy the product.

The packaging usually has colorful mascots which attract kids to the product making them want to try it out. The graphics that you use can impact customer perception and give them a good first impression of the cereal that you are selling.

Consider consumer base

A brand must keep its consumer base in mind and the type of cereal it is selling when considering what colors to include on the packaging design. The colors and graphics used should make these people feel special and even notice the cereal in the first place.

A custom cereal box design for kids can include vibrant and eye-catching colors such as red, orange, blue, yellow, etc. These can be paired with exciting characters and graphics so that the packaging can appeal to children.

Bright colors can get the attention of kids and give them a feeling of fun. Red is linked with energy and appetite and is therefore considered by many brands. Yellow evokes the feelings of warmth and happiness. Orange is usually linked with energy.

The characters that you use should be friendly so that the packaging can relate to kids. Bright along with colorful graphics are able to stand out to kids. You can include a fun puzzle or game at the back of the packaging as well which can convince kids to want to buy the product.

The packaging that is targeting adults can employ mute and sophisticated colors such as blacks, grays, greens, etc. You can even consider bold colors such as red to stand out. The packaging must let people know that the cereal is healthy.

For instance if you are selling a cereal that health-conscious adults often buy, you can consider using natural tones on the packaging. Earthy colors such as browns plus greens are able to suggest that natural ingredients are in the product.

The graphics that you use should also convince people that the cereal in the box is healthy. You can include graphics of the cereal itself or of fruits that are in the product, etc.

Consider brand

Due to color and graphics having a psychological impact on people, it is important to choose those that will enhance brand identity and awareness. The way that you design custom cereal boxes can aid in establishing a company’s identity therefore it is important to include the details that will help let people know about your brand.

For instance a brand that wants to convey it is one that manufacturers’ cereal products that only contain healthy ingredients can include colors like green on the box. The graphics must also relate to nature and natural stuff.

A brand that caters to kids and wants to convey that it is a fun and exciting brand can include bright and vibrant colors. Cartoon characters may be added on the box as well.

The colors and graphics that you include on cereal packaging have a role to play in impacting the way that people feel about your brand and product. Therefore these should be chosen carefully.
