Styling Your Side Table Like a Pro

Every professional interior designer knows that any furniture you add to your space is an additional styling opportunity. This is true for the side table as well. While it primarily serves the functional purpose of holding a drink or small plate while you kick back and relax, it’s also an opportunity to introduce nice elements into your space that can potentially pique your guests’ interests and elevate the aesthetics of your space. In this post, we’ll explore some side table styling tips to transform the aesthetics of your interior space.

Add Some Fresh Flowers

The simple trick of decorating your side table with fresh flowers never gets old. Consider adding a beautiful flower vase with fresh trimmed flowers to add some greenery and warmth to your space. If you have little ones in your home that may pull the vase over, you can go for a wooden or acrylic vase paired with faux florals instead of the traditional glass or ceramic vase with real flowers.

Remember the Rule of Threes

The rule of three is a commonly used styling convention that helps create a balanced and harmonious look when decorating any space. Instead of just adding things randomly to your table (which will only leave it cluttered), consider creating a simple display with three items of different sizes. This can be as simple as a vase or serving bowl paired with a book and a small trinket to top it off.

Consider Texture and Height.

To make your side table really pop, play with texture as much as possible to create some contrast. Examples of textured items you can have on the table include woven items, wooden pieces, stone and so on. These help create a sharp contrast, drawing the eyes to the table right away.

Display a Chessboard

This is an unusual but effective way to decorate your side table. Adding a stylish chess board to your side table gives the room a game-ready feel while also serving as an off-duty decor.

Add a Basket

If it suits the aesthetics of your space, consider adding a basket on top of your side table. It is decorative on its own and can also serve the dual purpose of holding TV remotes and other small objects.

Pair with a Second Table

Sometimes, the table itself is the decorative piece you’re adding to your space, and it’ll look even better when paired with a second table. Don’t be afraid to mix and match tables with different styles or materials, but maintain the same size or other elements to tie them together. For instance, you may consider placing matching lamps on both tables to draw a connection between them and catch people’s attention.

Add a Colourful Table Lamp

The right lighting can make your side table look even cooler and create a focal point in your room. But it’ll look even cooler when the table lamp itself is bright and colourful. Consider placing a table lamp on a small stack of hardcover books.
