Establishment

Missionary Flights International (MFI) was founded in 1964 by Reverend Don H. Beldin. The organization is based in Florida, United States, and its primary purpose is to provide flights between Florida and areas of need in the Caribbean, particularly Haiti. Reverend Beldin’s original vision for MFI was to serve missionaries working in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and the Bahamas.

Growth and Development

Under the leadership of various presidents, MFI has grown and expanded its operations. One notable past president is Richard Snook. The organization initially worked with Youth for Christ and later developed connections with other mission agencies and affiliated mission personnel. Today, MFI supports over 550 affiliated missionaries, transporting them along with medical teams and work teams to remote airstrips in the Caribbean.

At the beginning of 2015, Joe Karabensh took over the role of president, bringing new energy and commitment to the organization’s mission. MFI has evolved over the years, enhancing the ways in which it serves missionaries, communities, and partner organizations.

Key Moments

A significant event in MFI’s history took place on February 18, 1993, in West Palm Beach. This moment served as a catalyst for the organization’s growth and development, reaffirming its commitment to serving missionaries and communities in need.

MFI continues to extend its reach by attending local events, offering visits from MFI representatives, and even utilizing a warbird from the 1940s to spread the Gospel. The dedication and hard work of the organization’s founders, leaders, and staff have made it possible for them to consistently serve affiliated missionaries and make a lasting impact on the lives of those they support.

Operations and Services

Flight Services

Missionary Flights International (MFI) is a non-profit organization based in Florida, providing reliable and essential aviation services to missionaries operating in the Caribbean. With their primary area of operation being Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and the Bahamas, MFI conducts regular, bi-weekly flights from their Fort Pierce base. These flights focus on the transportation of affiliated missionaries, supplies, and support to the remote areas within the region, bridging the logistical gap and facilitating their mission work.

Logistical Services

Apart from flight services, MFI offers logistical support to the affiliated missions, ensuring a smooth flow of resources and personnel. This support includes handling cargo, managing flight schedules, and providing assistance in coordinating the movement of supplies within the Caribbean. MFI takes pride in establishing long-lasting connections with the communities they serve, thus becoming a dependable link between the missionaries on the front lines and the distant areas in need.

Aircraft Information

DC-3 Aircraft

Missionary Flights International (MFI) has a rich history with the Douglas DC-3 aircraft. These World War II-era planes have been used extensively in missionary aviation. The DC-3 is known for its reliability, ruggedness, and ability to operate in remote locations. The DC-3 can carry a significant payload, making it ideal for transporting passengers, cargo, and supplies to hard-to-reach areas.

In MFI’s early days, they operated a DC-3C under the registration N300MF. This aircraft played an essential role in furthering MFI’s mission, supporting many affiliated missionaries by providing essential transport services.

Turbine-Powered DC-3s

With advancements in technology and the growing needs of missionary aviation, MFI replaced their traditional DC-3 aircraft with a more modern and efficient version: the turbine-powered DC-3. This aircraft, previously operated by Rossair Kenya as 5Y-RDS, was exported to the USA and now serves under the Missionary Flights International banner.

The turbine-powered DC-3 combines the classic design and versatility of the original DC-3 with the enhanced performance of turbine engines. The upgraded aircraft provides better fuel efficiency, increased reliability, and higher speed, making it more suited to the needs of MFI and the missionaries they support.

In summary, Missionary Flights International’s use of both classic DC-3s and the more modern turbine-powered DC-3s exemplifies their commitment to meeting the needs of affiliated missionaries worldwide. As they adapt to advancements in aviation technology, MFI continues to provide vital transport services for missionaries working in remote and hard-to-reach areas, ensuring their work can continue without interruption.

Mission and Goals

Missionary Flights International (MFI) is a charity organization dedicated to spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ and providing assistance in the Caribbean through various programs and services. The organization focuses on two main aspects: spiritual objectives and humanitarian aims.

Spiritual Objectives

At the core of MFI’s mission is a commitment to Bible-centered missions and evangelism. Through their work, they help spread the teachings of Jesus Christ and support affiliated missionaries in the Caribbean region, specifically Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and the Bahamas. They serve over 550 missionaries, partnering with them to enhance their ministry efforts and facilitate the spiritual growth of local communities.

Humanitarian Aims

Beyond their spiritual objectives, MFI also plays a vital role in providing humanitarian support to people in the Caribbean. They offer reliable transportation and logistical services to assist with disaster relief efforts, medical missions, and other critical needs. As a charity, they have a 4/4 Star rating on Charity Navigator, showcasing their commitment to transparency and effective use of resources. By standing in the gap for affiliated missionaries, MFI aims to create a lasting impact on the lives of those they serve.

Future Plans and Prospects

Missionary Flights International (MFI) continues to expand its service area and impact, providing reliable transportation and logistical support to missionaries throughout the Caribbean. With a steady focus on strengthening partnerships and collaborations, MFI aims to make a lasting difference in the lives of those they serve.

In the coming years, MFI plans to explore new ways to deliver their services. As part of their growth strategy, they will assess the need for additional aircraft and resources to ensure their ability to meet the increasing demands of affiliated missions. Working with a range of partners, including local business owners and international mission organizations, MFI will work tirelessly to identify opportunities for expansion and improvement.

Technology plays a significant role in the future plans of MFI. Leveraging the latest advancements in aviation and communication, the organization will continually seek innovative methods for spreading the Gospel and strengthening their outreach efforts. This includes embracing the use of social media, digital tools, and data analytics to enhance their mission impact and improve overall efficiency.

Additionally, MFI recognizes the importance of nurturing the next generation of mission advocates and supporters. By engaging with younger audiences through events, educational initiatives, and volunteer programs, MFI will inspire a new wave of dedicated individuals who share the organization’s passion for serving others.

In conclusion, Missionary Flights International remains committed to its core mission—spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ while providing reliable transportation and logistical services to missionaries and organizations in need. Through their future plans and prospects, MFI will strive to make a positive impact on countless lives and further their vision of reaching people across the Caribbean and beyond.
