Although lip filler injections are a valuable technique for improving facial symmetry, augmenting the size and form of the lips, and adding or restoring volume, their widespread use is a contentious issue. There are several reasons to be wary about lip augmentation surgery, including the growth in overly pouty lips and the risk of poorly executed procedures. This is especially true in the era of social media when there are many unattainable beauty standards.

What Is Lip Augmentation?

A cosmetic treatment called lip augmentation can give you plumper, fuller lips. These days, the most popular technique for lip augmentation is using an injectable dermal filler. The most widely used fillers have ingredients that resemble hyaluronic acid. In the body, hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring material. It aids in giving your lips more fullness. Some refer to these dermal fillers as “hyaluronic acid fillers.”

Types Of Lip Augmentation:

Every kind of lip augmentation surgery produces a unique lip appearance. However, some choices are temporary, while others are irreversible. They consist of:

1. Lip fillers:

A physician will examine your lips, take images, and evaluate the anatomy of your face when you first visit. They will next determine which parts of your lips require additional plumpness or fullness. You will be given topical or local medication to numb the area before the injections. Before receiving an injection, applying ice to the lips might help numb the area and reduce swelling and bruises. Very tiny needles are used to inject the material into your lips after the locations to be injected have been meticulously marked. Ice may then be applied to reduce discomfort and manage edema. This takes about fifteen to thirty minutes and is all done in the office.

2.  Fat grafting:

This procedure, also known as autologous lip augmentation, involves your physician changing your lips using tissue. Fat from your abdomen, close to your belly button, will be removed by your doctor. They’ll move the fat to your lips after purifying it. A local anesthetic will numb the area surrounding your mouth for this procedure. Like lip fillers treatment, it is done in the office. After this 60 to 90-minute operation, you can return home that same day.

3.  Tissue grafting:

This is comparable to fat grafting; however, your doctor will use a portion of your skin to replace your lips instead of fat. This skin will come from the area of your lower abdomen. It is occasionally possible to use tissue from a scar following a cesarean section. In other circumstances, the surgeon may use a skin that was removed during a facelift. After removing the skin, your doctor will remove the outermost layer, known as the epidermis. You tuck the last portion into your lips. This will be performed in the office while you are under local anesthesia. Usually, it takes sixty to ninety minutes. You can return home that day, just like with the other possibilities. For at least five years, your lips will remain plump.

4.  Lip implants:

Lip implants are a more permanent choice if that’s what you want. Your physician will consult with you to determine the ideal implant size. To eliminate any bacteria, they will first sanitize the area. Your doctor will then numb your lips. They will then make a little cut in your mouth’s corners. They’ll use a device known as a clamp to create a tunnel in your lip. This tunnel allows the implant to go past your lips. It will be positioned above your lip muscles and beneath your lip fat. Your doctor will then sew your wounds shut using self-dissolving stitches.

Uses Of Hyaluronic Acid Fillers:

Hyaluronic acid fillers, the most popular kind, can alter the way your lips look by adding:

  • Shape
  • Structure
  • Volume

Usually, the effects last for six months. More injections are then required to maintain the volume of your lips.

Benefits Of Hyaluronic Acid Fillers:

The filler’s gel supports and molds the lips’ tissues after injection. Using hyaluronic acid fillers has the following advantages:

  1. Control of the lip volume: The doctor can better manage how much lip volume is created since the amount of material injected can be regulated.
  2. A slow and steady pace of treatment: The injections can be administered progressively across several appointments to get the desired effects.
  3. The bump disappears quickly: Removing any lumps and bumps caused by lip movement is simple.
  4. Reduced bruises: Swelling and bruises might be less than with other dermal fillers.
  5. Fairly long-lasting outcomes: The effects are not irreversible but endure for a while.

Final Words:

In conclusion, being well-informed and prepared before undergoing lip augmentation surgery is critical. Making an informed choice requires being aware of the many facets of the process, including the different kinds of filler, possible dangers, and anticipated results. Finding and hiring a licensed and competent medical expert is another critical step toward a positive and successful end. It is critical to consider one’s aspirations and practical objectives because lip augmentation is a customized technique with variable outcomes. Those who are informed of the process’s possible adverse effects, downtime, and the need for follow-up appointments will be better able to approach it objectively.
