Pregnancy and delivery take a large toll on a woman’s body. It is important to take care of it as best as possible after all that it went through. Here are some important things to do to ensure a good recovery.

  1. Rest

Leading up to and during delivery, you get little to no sleep. It is important to rest when you can. Try to stay in bed for at least 5 days to let your body recover before becoming physically active again. Your body just endured a lot of trauma so it will take some time and patience before returning to normal activities. You will thank yourself later for resting for longer. It will also ensure that you won’t start bleeding and can prevent further complications.

  1. Stay Hydrated

During delivery, you lose a lot of fluid in your body. Drinking water will help make up for this loss and help you retain essential nutrients. It will also help kidney function by pushing waste out of the kidneys and speeding up recovery. Drinking enough water is especially important when starting to breastfeed since you will be secreting milk production and will need that extra fluid in your body.

  1. Slowly Get Into Physical Activity

After you have spent some time resting from this life changing event, it is important to get back into activity, but not too quickly. Be mindful of your body, what it just went through, and don’t push yourself too much. Start with very low impact exercises such as walking or kegels, to help you regain muscle in the areas that need it the most. Physical therapy is also a great way to continually increase the amount of physical exertion you do. Getting started with physical therapy Idaho Falls can help you create personalized exercises curated for you and your current postpartum needs.

  1. Communicate

While your body just went through a lot, your emotional and mental health is just as important. It is important to stay in touch and communicate with friends and family to be able to lean on for emotional support. Postpartum depression is common so look for signs of that and be able to communicate them to a loved one or healthcare professional if they arise. Communicate with your partner about how you feel and the needs you may have. It will be hard to do a lot of things on your own starting out as a new mom so do not be afraid to let them know what you need.

  1. Vitamins and Probiotics

Taking vitamins and probiotics ensures that you are getting all the nutrients you need that may have been missing through food and drink. Nutrients such as iron and calcium are two very vital nutrients that decrease with childbirth. These can be easily brought back into the body through taking vitamins. Probiotics are also important in making sure your gut health is on the right track.ManThey will prevent bacteria from getting in and causing issues later, even within your immune system. Try implementing yogurt into your diet or take probiotic supplements.
