Rather shockingly, Jurassic World will be returning in the summer of 2025. What’s made the announced July 2, 2025, release date a shocker is how quickly it’s come around. It was only in January 2024 that reports began to circulate about Universal Pictures developing the new entry, with principal photography taking place in June.
Given how long it takes to make big-budget movies these days and that there were three or four years between each installment of the Jurassic World Trilogy (2015-2022), it seems rapid. However, Jurassic World Rebirth has seemingly been in the works for a couple of years in secret, and the studio will want to capitalize on the IP’s popularity.
A mighty IP that continues to draw in fans
In entertainment circles, Jurassic Park and Jurassic World are among the very biggest. The six films average over $6 billion at the worldwide box office – not adjusted for inflation and including the $365 million relative flop of Jurassic World III. Jurassic World: Dominion, for its many flaws and lacking writing, still eclipsed $1 billion in 2022.
It’s one of those IPs that will seemingly boast eternal appeal across all entertainment mediums, from VR to iGaming. It’s why you can find Jurassic Park Gold as one of the foremost slot games that pay jackpot prizes daily. It’s a classic game, features everyone’s favorite characters and dinosaurs from the original trilogy, and now offers a top payout. Online, Jurassic Park Gold is one of an extensive series of Jurassic Park and World slots. In the modern video gaming scene, VR and remakes to one side, it’s all about the park builder and simulation game Jurassic World Evolution. Evolution 2 has been a rampant success for Frontier Developments.
Released in November 2021, continued support for the game with enticing expansions enabled it to be the biggest contributor to Frontier’s revenue in the 2023 financial year. The British developer has now announced Jurassic World Evolution 3 for release anytime between mid-2025 and 2026, and there’s Jurassic Park: Survival on the way.
A star-studded re-entry for Jurassic World
The Jurassic Park series has never been left wanting for star power and high-quality actors, but with Jurassic World Rebirth, it looks like Universal has pushed the boat out to bring in seat-stuffing names to claim yet another $1 billion release. Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali headline the cast.
They’ll be accompanied by the very talented Jonathan Bailey, Ed Skrein, Rupert Friend, David Iacono, Luna Blaise, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. Behind the camera will be Gareth Edwards, who did some great work creating sci-fi worlds and utilizing special effects in Godzilla, Rogue One, and The Creator and reportedly dropped everything to take this job.
Dominion is said to have set the field for these next Jurassic World movies, with Rebirth taking place five years later, when the Earth has proven to be largely inhospitable to dinosaurs, leaving a few hot spots for sightings. The task for Johansson and Ali is to lead a team to collect the genetic material of the largest species of the prehistoric animals that remain.
Next year looks to be another big one for the gigantic Jurassic Park IP, with a new movie teeming with talent and even a new simulation game for fans to enjoy.
