The Grand National, one of the most anticipated events in the horse racing calendar, is nearly here. That means there’s a whole host of fans and racing enthusiasts who are bubbling with excitement as they wait to see the drama unfold at Aintree in April.

Each year, this famous race captivates millions of viewers in the UK and around the world. The 2025 edition promises even more thrilling action, with top-class horses, skilled jockeys, and the iconic Aintree Racecourse setting the stage. So, whether you’re a seasoned racing fan who enjoys Grand National betting 2025, or a first-time viewer, here’s everything you need to know about the 2025 Grand National.

When and where is the 2025 Grand National?

The 2025 Grand National will take place on Saturday, 5 April 2025, at Aintree Racecourse near Liverpool – also known as Grand National Day. This is the third and final day of the three-day Festival, and easily the most anticipated.

The main race is scheduled to start at 4 pm (GMT). The Grand National Festival spans three days, beginning on Thursday, 3rd April, and will feature many other high-profile races, such as the Aintree Hurdle and the Foxhunters’ Chase.

The Grand National course and race format

The Grand National is a handicap steeplechase that covers four miles and two-and-a-half furlongs, making it one of the longest and toughest races in the National Hunt calendar. Horses must navigate

30 fences across two laps, including some iconic jumps like Becher’s Brook, The Chair, Canal Turn, and the Foinavon Fence.

The challenging nature of this course requires a blend of speed and stamina from both horse and jockey. This also makes it an unpredictable and exciting race where anything can happen.

Since its first running in 1839, the Grand National has delivered unforgettable moments each year for racing fans.

From Red Rum’s legendary three-time triumph in the 1970s, to Tiger Roll’s back-to-back wins in 2018 and 2019, the race has a long legacy of magnificent, heartbreaking, and inspirational moments.

Horses and jockeys to watch in 2025

While the final field won’t be confirmed until closer to race day, there are several contenders already generating interest and giving fans lots to discuss around the predictions for the race.

Defending champion I Am Maximus, trained by Willie Mullins, could attempt back-to-back wins at this year’s renewal. Meanwhile, Inothewayurthinkin, trained by Gavin Cromwell, is currently the bookies’ favourite to win. Other strong contenders, such as Iroko, Nick Rockett, and Intense Raffles, are also expected to put on a show as they vie for glory.

That being said, punters should remember that until the race is over, it’s anyone’s game. We’ve seen many examples over the years of shocking twists and surprise upsets that defied the racing odds. However, this also means it’ll be an edge-of-your-seat thriller.

The 2025 Grand National is set to be another thrilling chapter in the race’s storied history. So, whether you’re attending Aintree or watching at home, it’s sure to be an event that brings together fans from all walks of life.
