Dark Under-Eye Injections: A Comprehensive Guide

Some of the most sensitive skin on the human body is found under the eyes, and unfortunately this makes them one of the first areas to show signs of aging, stress, and tiredness. Puffiness and dark circles are common occurrences, and there are many cosmetic products aimed at getting rid of them. These, however, offer limited and temporary results. That’s why many people turn to cosmetic treatments such as under-eye injections instead. Here’s everything you need to know about them.

What Are Dark Under-Eye Injections?

In cosmetic tourism hotspots like Thailand, under-eye injections (known locally as ฉีดใต้ตาคล้ำ) have been booming in recent years. However, the treatment remains relatively unknown compared to other cosmetic therapies, such as botox.

What happens is dermal fillers or skin-boosting agents like platelet-rich plasma are injected into the dark area below the eyes. These brighten the tone of the area, as well as reduce fine lines and sagging. The injections often only take between 15 and 30 minutes, and the results can last from six months to a year.

How Do They Work?

To understand how the injections work, you should first understand why our under-eye areas become dark and saggy in the first place. This area naturally has thin skin and minimal fat padding, yet aging and stressors can cause them to lose even more volume. Creams and serums cannot replace this, which is why they can only help slightly by brightening the area. Injections actually replace the lost volume in the area, leading to more noticeable results.

Can They Help Everyone?

No, which is why it is important to get a consultation first. They help people whose under-eye darkness is caused by the area hollowing out, as described above, but some people develop darkness under the eyes because of pigmentation and vascular issues. They may be able to use injections along with other treatments, but they are unlikely to see much change from injections alone.

What Are the Risks?

Like anti-wrinkle injections and other cosmetic treatments, the injections are very safe, but some mild side effects have been known to occur. These include bruising, swelling, and tenderness, but they do not last long. Infection is also a risk, so make sure you go to a licensed medical professional if you choose to get the treatment. Avoid places that seem especially cheap or unhygienic. Also be sure to mention any allergies, past treatments, and relevant medical history when you have your consultation.

Do They Require Recovery Time?

The downtime needed after under-eye injections is minimal and unlikely to cause much disruption to your lifestyle. Most people are told to avoid strenuous activity, alcohol, and harsh sun exposure for at least 24 hours, or until any swelling, bruising, or redness has died down. This usually only takes a few days. The results start to show around one or two weeks after the treatment.

Can They Be Combined With Other Treatments?

Yes. Many people combine them with other popular skin treatments, such as chemical peels and laser resurfacing. Some also have them with treatments like microneedling, as this helps boost collagen production for long-lasting skin benefits. It is best to ask the provider about the best options for you.

How Much Does It Cost?

The price depends on where you get the injections. Thailand, for example, is a major cosmetics base where lots of providers offer very competitive prices. In other countries, and especially in the West, you should expect to pay more, often upwards of $500 per session.

Conclusion

Under-eye injections are an effective treatment for some common cosmetic hang-ups. However, it is important to make sure you understand what they can do and the risks involved before getting them, just like you would with any treatment. This article provides a strong starting point, but be sure to research your provider and attend a consultation.
